Communication between Max/MSP and Isadora Can't Post

Hi, am quite new to Isadora so apologies if this is an obvious question. Am trying to send floating point values between Max on an Intel Macbook and Isadora on the same machine.

Have tried using udpsend to the Osc Listener but to no avail. I don't really understand where the Isadora/1 message to specify adress would go into the udpsend object. Am also not really sure what "type tags" are or how to turn them on, can find no mention of this in Max documentation.

I have also tried sendind a MIDI signal to Isadora and then converting the signal (0-127) to a float after.

Am using the Control watcher but cant receive any values. Am sending MIDI from Max to the IAC driver but cant see where in the Isadora MIDI setup dialogue to select this as the incoming source.

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Yea I can do that too which suggests theres nothing wrong with the software. Have bin scanning this and the Max forum and seems to be an issue with Isadora and Intel Mac. Is this relevent??

Once again, any help would be appreciated greatly.

Others have successfully sent OSC back and forth from Isadora to Max. One thing that has recently come to light is that Isadora doesn't recognize OSC bundles. Could this be the problem?

Best,
mark

Re: [hartsteins] Communication between Max/MSP and Isadora [In reply to] Can't Post

OK I use isadora 1,2,9 and Max 4.6.3 on mac os x 10.5.

I created a really basic max patch (attached) and a simple isadora patch (also attached)

make sure that isadora is set to 1234 as the OSC/network input in the preferences.

The screen shot shows a really basic max and isadora set up. make sure you are use:

sprintf /isadora/ 10 %ld

In the Max object box. (watch for spaces! it will not work if it does not have correct spaces!) In this case 10 and 9 are my default channels and 127.0.0.1 sends data within a computer. I have no wifi or any network turned on by the way.

Channel 10 should work as a slider sending numerical values and channel 9 should just 'bang' resulting in a trigger in Isadora.

See attached pics and open both patches, I hope this of some help and I have purposely kept it very basic.

Let me know how it goes....

There are alot of useful max externals at

http://cnmat.berkeley.edu/downloads

including ones to make sure that osc stuff is formatted correctly before being sent by udp, and also routing received osc stuff easily

Only went up fairly recently (possibly in anticipation of a flurry of interest around Max5)

Cheers

To see incoming MIDI you need to go to Windows> Midi Setup.

In input 1, the drop down menu should show you all the available inputs, in max you generally get two options Max/MSP 1 and Max.MSP 2.

Make sure you open Max first, then Izzy.
