Phidget Servo Micro-controller 3.0 Can't Post

Hi,

I'm building a robotic installation using the PhidgetServo 3.0 micro-controller and servos and wondered if Isadora supported this hardware through an object or does a specific object need programming.

I would like to run 4x PhidgetServo 3.0 through a USB HUB and could Isadora manage this..... I've been working with a MAX patch but am more confident with Izzy. Crazy

How does Izzy work with the Arduino Platform???? Is there an object that speaks to the micro-controller????? I've found the Phidget much more stable and usable. I've looked at the forums here but haven't found anything about Phidgets.....

Hi Ivan

I can't say anything to the Phidgetservo, but there are a lot of posts here about Arduino.

Looking at the Arduino, it looks like Izzy uses the serial actors to comm with micro-controller + ports...... the phidget board comes with code and patches premade for adaptation in other program such as MAX, Java, C, C++. I tried the serial actors last night but no luck.

Be great to use the use-ability of Izzy though.

Thanks for your response michel.

I think we concluded that phidget isn't isadorable, but arduino is, at the last workshop. Something about the programming being very encapsulated for phidget.

hmmmm...... what do you mean by "very encapsulated for phidget"...... does this mean uploading firmware to the microcontroller, I have found this to be problematic in the past if you have limited programming skills or the code provided doesn't work, etc.

Could a binary Izzy Actor be written for the Phidget platform. Crazy

Thanks for your reply.

I'm a bit out of my water here, but to my understanding they have no open source or SDK so we can't "tap" the communication. It's proprietary software only, except for whatever max object they provide.

Not really in the tinker spirit one would expect in such a product.

Hi Fubbi,

There's some further info here-

The problem with Phidget is that it requires writing a module in C++ to handle the communications. That means using the Isadora SDK to create a new Isadora module.

Arduino (or MidiTron or the Infusion Systems stuff) use a ubiquitous protocol (serial and MIDI, respectively) to communicate, and Isadora handles those protocols; thus you can just hook them up and get them working.

If anyone out there is interested in getting the Phidget SDK and making a module with the Isadora SDK I'll definitely help you all I can. But I myself have more important things within Isadora itself that require my attention.

Best Wishes,
Mark

I hope someone picks up on that challenge, it would be fantastic!

Way above my head unfortunately
