Wiimotes, IR & the Izzy Wiki Can't Post

I've posted some collected information about using the Infrared 'sensor' bar with the Wiimote on the IzzyWIKI

After buying a battery powered IR bar yesterday I had a play with using the Wiimote as a mouse pointer, and using OSCulator it comes out really nicely. I haven't tried using it with the extended desktop layout of a "stage", but I am guessing you get a long thin area, one side of which acts as the targeting are for the operation screen and one for the stage, depending on your layout prefs.

The big thing with this is that not only can you use your projector and Wiimote for targetting or live drawing, but also that position isn't absolutely crucial as your brain will learn where to point given the appropriate cues.

There's also a nifty YouTube video where someone appears to use four tea-light candles as an IR bar...

If Mark's happy I'll post the latest version of the actor here and on the WIKI, although I imagine it may find it's way into the new release as a standard plugin.

edit: OMG! I just did the candle thing and it like totally works man! (Turning involuntarily into "dude" language at the joy of it). Just put two candles about 24 inches or 50cm apart in front of your screen and they send out enough IR for the Wiimote to get a location. Like, Awesome!

Wink Nice one. I've had a mess with mine on and off but not fully experimented with it yet.

Joe,
I like the candle way too, but more practicaly, I buyed 6 very powerfull IR leds, with proper alimentation, you can use it in the sides of your screen (can be 6 meters), and it work from a 15m distance, the wii IR bar is too small and too weak for us.

I got a pair of glasses a bit like the ones Orbital use, swapped the LED lights for infra-Red LED - should be fun when linked up with the 3D projector!

Cool <-- Me with IR glasses on!
