Re: [pandigital] Wireless cameras [In reply to] Can't Post

I've used wireless cameras often. I basically connect the composite video output of the receiver to some kind of firewire converter... in my case, I like the Canopus ADVC-110, but there are others.

All of the wireless camera stuff I bought from http://supercircuits.com -- but they only sell NTSC (north american system) stuff. For PAL, try Maplins (U.K.) or Conrad's (Germany)...

Best Wishes,
Mark

Re: [pandigital] Wireless cameras [In reply to] Can't Post

I have used both NTSC and a PAL wireless cameras via the Canopus ADVC 100 digitiser unit mentioned above, without any problems.
However, I have had problems with the USB Belkins etc. Their drivers seem to fight for the video signal, causing problems. If you can afford to get the Canopus, you will avoid headaches. I also had problems with another digitiser unit. It seems like the Canopus is the most trouble-free.

When you look for a camera you need to look at the resolution specs for the camera. Try to get one that has a 640x480 image signal, rather than 320x240 if possible. Also avoid receivers that don't allow you to tune the reception yourself. Some of the cameras operate well in low light which is great for stage use, but makes the image much grainier. Depends what you need it for. There are many kinds available now.

One more note... the cameras are MUCH cheaper in the UK than in North America, but then are PAL of course, not NTSC. However, I bought a PAL one in UK as an emergency backup when touring, and was able to use it without too much trouble on my NTSC system. (slight stutter occasionally)

[edit]
for the record I got the xlr8 working with a swann wireless cam into izzy.
There is some interference depending on location and frequency used, some which appear to take down my wireless router.
