looking for a smooth sensor adjustment Can't Post

Hi,
I just get MIDI sensors from I-CubeX, I use a reach close sensor to play a sound. The position of a sound movie player with a short sound is assigned to an object movement (on a rail). I have a big problem : when the object is moving slowly there is a bunch of very loud cracking, this crackling sounds are even worth when there is no movement. It came from the adjustment of the sensor : in the input position numbers after point are changing all the time, so there is permanently a small sound playing an no silence. It's impossible to obtain a clear sound assigned to the moving object.
I know it must be a very basic question but I spend a night on it without result. Is someone can help me to smooth the sensor adjustment.

I'll send videos of the exhibition at the end of the month.
thanks a lot
have a good day

paul

Maybe you tried this, but what about using a smoother node to smooth out the raw data from the sensor?
The frequency seems to act like a sensitivity filter, and the smoothing amount seems to be a multiplier for how much smoothing you want applied.

Yes, the smoother actor is the way to go!

Best,

Re: [skkratch] looking for a smooth sensor adjustment [In reply to] Can't Post

Hello,
I'm back on this project, The smoother work well on video and will help me a lot for this work but with sound I can't obtain a smoth signal.
A Control Watcher is connect tothe positionin a Sound Movie Player in order to assign distance from the reach close sensor to my sound. But the position display have many cipher after point (even if the sound have been smoothed) . The signal change too much and the sound seems to bug with micro cuts. I'd like to heard a smooth sound. I don't understand how to change the position value velocity; maybe it's not the right way to assign sound playing with sensors.

Is there someone who could help me to solve this problem.

thanks a lot
have a good day

Paul: it's unclear to me what you are trying to control in the Sound Player. The volume??? If you can be a bit more specific, this would help me help you.

Best,
Mark

Re: [Mark Coniglio] looking for a smooth sensor adjustment [In reply to] Can't Post

Sorry for the informations, I'll try to explain.
The aim is to connect a distance sensor to a sound player, the object movement in front of the reach close sensor is assigned to the sound playing. The object control the played part of the sound. For example if I have a complete sentence as sound, I'll heard the whole sentence approaching my hand close to the sensor, and will be able to play and rewind the words with my hand.
A Control Watcher is connected to Sound Movie Player position in order to control the "reading head".

the problem is the the position value of the sound is changing all the time (with many cipher after point)
The signal change too much and the sound seems to bug with micro cuts. I'd like to heard a clean sound.

is someone have a solution ?

thanks a lot

For more detailed sound/audio control, I prefer Max. Not that Isadora couldn't do this.

I'm not sure how clean the data will be from a distance sensor, could it be a ribbon type controller? You wouldn't have noise problems as much.

If you decide to use Max for your controller, there are several ways that noise can be filtered to give smoother output in Max. I was using Max to smooth out control voltage from a theremin earlier this year. I haven't tried, but you can get Max to send info to Isadora through OSC if you need to control the video in Isadora too.

It seems like you have to filter the incoming data, probably slowing the incoming rate of data, and getting rid of spurious numbers as well. You might need the Smoother, and some sort of rate filter, and maybe actors like Inside Range and Limit Scale-Value. These kinds of sensors run at very high sample rates and output all kinds of crazy values. So slowing down the data rate and smoothing/limiting the values is necessary.
