microphone G4 & osc Can't Post

hello to everybody,
i'm quite new with Isadora, i'm trying to understand the trial i've just downloaded.
i've a problem with my G4 and the classic microphone (with jack in)... maybe to transmit audio from a microphone to isadora i must use a firewire microphone... don't know...

Thanks in advance for the help, Chiara.

You might need to activate the sound input. To do this...

>> Go to Input on the menu bar. (see attached PDF 2)
>> Start Sound only Input.

Hopefully this should work. If not make sure the engine (Isadora) is running. Check this by going...

>> Output menu in the menu bar (see attached PDF 3)
>> Resume Engine.

If that still does not work check you're system preferences input and output set-up.

Hope this helps.

Good luck!

You want to capture (record) the sound and then process it as images? Thats going to be really hard to do. Especially in 'real-time'. I cant think of any way to do that to be honest sorry.

Any one else got ideas?

Is also possible to capture from the radio of itunes ( for example ) and process the audio as images ? If yes, could you tell me how.. ?

Thanks, best, Chiara

Well, you can use audio from a video. Butr trying to use the sound and convert it into pictures is hard. Maybe by using the 'Tap tempo' actor or something- you could pulse images to the audio but not create images 100% from just the music/audio. You can add effects to pre-loaded images but otherwise you might be beter looking at Max/MSP perhaps?

As for iTunes, maybe try this... Jack OS X? http://www.softlow.com/.../free/jack-os-x.html Its hard to re-route audio from inside the mac to be honest.

Re: [skulpture] 2 [skulpture] microphone G4 & osc [In reply to] Can't Post

skulpture, i'm able to process the video via camera firewire and manipulate it but not the audio !
For process the video i use video in watcher and the projector. If i want i can add some effects like colorize, zoomer etc...
but don't know how can i do for capturing only the audio and be able to listen it and then manipulate it. I've found the audio source from imput DV camera ( i would use the camera for capturing just the audio ) but i try to use soundlevelwatcher act.and sound player act but don't work... no sound palyng.

Thanks for your kind help.

Chiara.

Hello,
Isadora is perfectly shaped for video but audio is still in beta. I have the core version with more audio features but not very stable and without documentation. For the moment I use Max/MSP or Live in background, routing audio with soundflower (free but only on MacOs). Concerning audio entry and recording, Isadora is not very precise and I prefere also use a real audio app. And DV is not the best because you have some delay between audio and video, better to use a real sound card and a real record/effect app.
All the best, Jacques

Re: [chiara] 2 [skulpture] microphone G4 & osc [In reply to] Can't Post

hi chiara
i'm not sure i properly understand what you want to do, but if you want to take audio and process it using isadora, you have to get the core audio upgrade, which allows you to process the sound input from your audio card through audio units and such (i am speaking about macintosh, not sure about PC). but i haven't done it yet, althoug i would like to, so maybe manipulating the audio in this way is not what you had in mind.

if you want more intense live processing that is audio based i suggest the excellent ableton live (which is a bit expensive) or the less expensive, but still excellent plogue bidule. plogue is a modular environment similar to isadora, but for sound only. then you can use soundflower or jack osx to route the audio into isadora (assuming the sound capture is on and you can get a signal) to manipulate video.

right now this is what i am doing, more or less (not with ableton live or plogue, but with another program.). i have ableton live and will purchase plogue bidule soon so i can help out with more specific questions regarding this applications.

again, i am on a mac so hopefully this applies to you.

incidentally i think i am giving you the right info. i might be wrong as i am just starting to work with isadora myself.
good luck
deb

I think I may of found something that will interest you....

http://eskatonia.net/qcblog/quartonian-vsm/

Quartonian VSM (Video Stills Manipulator) is a specialised simplified tool for creating beat synced animations from folders full of still images.
This is my first attempt at a full stand alone Cocoa application, it was created entirely in Quartz Composer and Interface Builder, there is no actual objective-c coding.
This is designed primarily as a live performance tool. It could be used for motion graphics design but at the moment the easiest way of recording the output is to output to tv out on a second display record to DV tape then recapture the output.
