Hello,

I'm trying to control a Kramer VS-5x4 video switcher with the serial actor. But it doesn't work. This is the first time I use RS232. So probably i'm forgetting an important detail. This is what I already did:

-I connected the switcher via a usb to serial converter. I'm able to select it (in the serial port setup window) and to connect.
-I have the protocol and the HEX codes.
-The dip switch inside the machine is correctly installed for RS22 communication
-In the actor I type for example 01 83 81 81. The actor doesn't send error messages like 'this isn't a correct hex value'...
-the 'port' on the actor is set to 1, the port of my rs232 cable, the 'params' is set to 1, the 'param 1' to 0.

If somebody has any suggestions? Is there a possibility to test if you are sending anything at all with a VU meter? Maybe a very stupid question...

unfortunately... it still doesn't work.
It is definitely a hardware problem: the 'rs232 to usb cable', the Kramer switcher.

I'm also using a rs232 cable between the 'usb to rs232' cable and the switcher. Someone told me that it wouldn't work if I would connect the machine directly to the 'usb to rs232' cable.
Which usb to serial cable are you using? I'm using a Prolific Technology Inc. cable, with 2303 drivers.

Maybe the macpro quad core with leopard doesn't yet support this interface?

Hey Ief

I am using the usb to rs232 from Keyspan (http://keyspan.com/products/usa19hs/) and it works great. The cables I use between the usb serial adapter and the device I am doing myself.

it works...
i also had to custom build a cable, following the connection diagram from the manual. It is indeed impossible to directly connect the switcher to the usb to serial cable.

Hey Michel,

i had to remove the 'parameter' controls, and enter the values directly in the data box. It was impossible to make it work with parameters, even in a new patch with only one send serial actor.
Maybe a bug?
I re-made the patch, based on yours, without parameters.
