send serial data actor and sony brc300 camera Can't Post

Hi all, I'm new to the forum.
I'm the video technician of the "Theatre National de Chaillot" in Paris. I'm working for now with the DCA dance company (with the well-known choregrapher Philippe Decouflé).
I'm trying without success to communicate zoom and focus position to a SONY BRC300 (motorized video camera). It can be controlled via RS422 (VISCA protocol ) or RS232.
I'm working with a G5 Quad + decklink extreme PCI-X card (video and audio I/O + RS422 sony protocol).
The RS422 port is recognized by Isadora. I have the complete list of hexadecimal commands but nothing append.
I know that this video camera can be controlled by this way because I have a RS422 Remote which works...
javascript:%20addTag('crazy')
Is there anybody who successed with this kind of job?

I myself have not specifically controlled such devices, but many here have done so with success.

What version are you using? Can you post an example of one of the codes required to do something? Perhaps I can help.

Best Wishes,
Mark

Thank you Mark for the great tool you've made. It would be good to see you in Paris. Lot of people are interrested in Isadora.
The theatre where I work could be a good place to do it.

I'm using the 1.2.7 version of Isadora on OSX.4.9.
The problem is that I've no idea of the pins connections between the declink card and the the camera (which is a SONY EVI-D70 - sorry for the mistake). I know the way it is connected to the camera (RXD+ RXD-, TXD+, RXD-, GND).
This is an example of an hexadecimal message for reseting the camera's position (x has to be replaced by the camera's ID)

8x 01 06 05 FF

Thanks for your replies.

OK -- there was a bug in the Send Serial actor that prevents it sending hex FF. I will be uploading a new version, hopefully today, but Monday at the latest, that has a fix for this problem.

Best,
Mark

I have a 4 camera setup with EVI-D70's and a lot of experience with the wiring of them...Although I haven't used Izzy yet to try to control them, the cam's take a straight ahead serial input (provided the connector's pinology is right). I have some older control app's that run on Win 9.xx that may work for you. One is the original freebie that came with the D30. I'd be most interested to see how your setup works out!

KC --

Have you had any luck controlling your EVI-D-70's with Izzy?

Do you generally use MAX/MSP or a joystick controller made by Sony?

I use the RM-BR300 joystick controller from Sony. The cams are daisy chained using RS-422. It is quite accurate even over distances of 200+ feet. Speaking of Send Serial Actor....I need to use this actor to send serial commands to a pair of Panny PJ's. I am using a MBP 2.16 and I assume I would have to make a USB->9-pin cable. Any experience sending serial data?

Yes, sending serial data to control Sanyo projectors, but not Panasonic. The manufacturer supplies the hexidecimal codes and the send serial actor can punch it out through a USB to Serial Keyspan adapter. Over a long distance, it's best to convert to CAT5 or go wireless, since RS-232 has only short runs.

Here is the adapter you need Keyspan USB adapter

What is your intent with controlling the projectors? Refocus?

Hey Benoitsimon -

Have you solved your problem?

I've successfully controlled an EVI-D70 with serial via RS232 control cable without a problem. Sony provides a comprehensive list of control codes which work with the send serial actor.

Let us know if you are still having issues.

Hi,

Indeed, I've solved the problem but I have done it in Max with a keyspan adapter. I've made my own serial cable (DIN to D9).I've grabbed the hexadecimal codes in the evi's documentation and I've "sniffed" the evi software on pc in order to find the boot sequence. I haven't tried with Isadora but I will work again on it for another project.
The thing I don't know is how to wire the RS422 port and if it will work with the serial object. Is it only a matter of wiring?
Thank you for your interrest.
