the pause engine will let you edit and jump between scenes without showing what you are doing on screen, but it's not quite the same. I think it will freeze the image sent when you pause, and it will then go black when you do a significant edit, or when you switch scenes. A blind would continue running the video (effects, input etc...) so that the action on stage could continue without interrupting this flow of rehearsal. This is great so that you can work during rehearsal, rather than having to stop and wait. Watchout does this, but it's possible there because the show is actually playing on a different computer than you are editing on, so if you "go offline" you can make changes without effecting the playback system. It is sort of possible to set up a similar thing with Isadora, it's not simple but possible. On a recent show where I was remotely controlling all the Isadora playback computers I was able to do this, and it was great. I really missed it when I was back to one computer on the next show. Of course setting up the remote control was really a pain, and you can only edit the subset of feature that you have built a remote control for. ------------ So to approach this request from a bit more distance may provide a viable solution, and one which could have other benefits. (particularly for me) Not to say that this is easy to to, it's still probably a lot of work. Lets say I open Isadora in "slave" mode on one computer; and it Master mode on another computer. Then I can edit away on the master while the slave plays back. Then I can save/send to the slave. In the most simplistic terms, this could be ac heaved by closing the file on the slave, copying the new version and opening it. but that immediately sets up an expectation and desire for some more features, some maybe easy, others not.
- I would want the newly open file to jump to the last open scene
- I probably can't expect it to return to the same state, because it may have changed too much, so that scene would still have to be in the state that it was on the master.
- Input also becomes and issue.
- again the most simplistic is that local input effects only the local copy of Isadora.
- or do I have a state where the slave acts in "remote" control mode, where any scene change or value change on the "master" is propagated to the slave?
- And in that case do I block local input on the slave, or allow both remote and local and the conflicts that may arise.
- Or do I propagate local input change on the slave to the master?
- If I go offline and then online, are all values propagated from the master back to the slave?
- (as in a snapshot recall) and what about values in user actors not stored in a snapshot.
anyway it obviously has lots of issues, and to add the input/value sync would probably require something that might be a drastic change to the whole interface, but I though I'd throw out the idea. Basically to have a blind mode when using only one computer you would run the master and slave on the same computer, with input sync routing in one direction or the other. -- Hal Eagar - Media Effects Artist http://haleagar.com Director - Digital Performance Institute http://digitalperformance.org DPI-office 646 442 4435 | Hal-cell 917 257 8440
