Flash Plug-in please please please Can't Post

Holy cow that would be super useful for VJ's-- it has its own native programming language, small file sizes, vector art rocks, if you could pass variables in and out of it (as you can with Resolume or Salvation) the possibilities for midi-controlled-flash are endless!
Those of us who do a lot of Flash video would quickly find a way to load YouTube video into Isadora using the netConnection parameters... I drool at the thought....
One reason I do a lot more live performance with Resolume is that I can do live text updates and run math script functions out of the flash plug-in.

This request has come up a few times. Quicktime used to support Flash playback, but they've taken it out of QT 7.4. So now the solution to do this would be quite complicated... either I would have to license the Flash Playback engine (which requires a per-seat license fee to Adobe) or adapt the Flash Plugins used inside web browsers to to play Flash. Neither one is a great solution... in any case, I definitely see the value of Flash playback, and am exploring other possible solutions.

Best Wishes,
Mark

Hmm, so what is the method that resolume uses? On the PC applications use the ActiveX version of the flash plugin, that's how the Cortona VRML plugin load flash.
I would certainly like this, as I like more generative image sources, and there would certainly be a lot of tricks you could do.
  • use the flashcom server for remote live video
  • hook up live string data feeds
I would probably set up some XML socket remote control of the flash, but such an actor would want mouseX, mouseY, and key inputs to it.
Perhaps an arbitrary parameters list as well, with some example flash code on how to pick up / hook to those values.

Of course you could run flash on a second computer and feed the output into a capture device, or on the PC, run it on the same computer on a different screen, and use Camtasia to grab it from your desktop and feed it to the live input of Isadora.

I have used Camtasia to do this, but it's a significant extra processor hit, and the local keyboard and mouse can only go to the active application which can be tricky.
Also since Isadora only has the one live video input, you may need that for a live camera and not be able to use those hacks.

----------------------------------------
and since I like to throw out alternative ideas, which might provide some form of solution to this.
how about:
  • a desktop scrape actor.
  • or a VNC client actor.
  • or a Firefox actor.
    • then you could embed flash or any other plugin into a html page and get it into izz

just to add, it would be wicked just for easily creating and playing back super widescreen files ie 5120 by 768 or even 6400 by 1024, I have 2 different installations that use 5 wide 42" plasma setups and on that is five dlp projectors wide
