Controlling video footage Can't Post

What I'm wondering is if there is an actor for video like the Mouse Watcher or Keyboard Watcher that can link up with an actor such as the Movie Player Actor and thereby allow you to control aspects of live footage such as speed or zoom inputs by way of a viewers movement in front of a webcam instead of using a mouse to control this.

What I'm basically trying to do is through a webcam allowing a viewer through movement to control video footage such as the speed of it.

Any advice would be helpful as I'm relatively new to Isadora.

Thanks James

One useful combination:

Video In Watcher -> Difference -> Calc Brightness

The output of Calc Brightness will vary its value based on the amount of movement seen by the camera. Stillness will give 0, movement a higher number. You will need to scale this output value to get good results though.

Best Wishes,
Mark

Using Eyes ++ I suceed in creating a 8 slider controller.

Get a webcam.

Get a black tissue.

Get white items ( I use white stones) (the call me "petit poucet")

Point the cam to the tissue and put the height sotnes on it.

Link the Video in watcher to Eyes ++.

Eyes ++ will catch the height item and give you the vertical position of each one.

Link the blobs to midi through a blob reader and you got a 8 slider midi controller ( and it's cheap)

I wish i could got more than one cam at once.

I succeed too with 16 stones a splitted cam signal and two eyes ++ but its too heavy for my macbook CPU to handle it.

Thanks Mattao

I understand what you're saying Mattao up until 'Link the blobs to midi through a blob reader and you got a 8 slider midi controller' could you explain more what you mean and how to link the blobs to midi through a blob reader. It sounds really interesting and something I'd really like to explore. Thanks for the reply.

Hi Snazell,

I was essentially reacting to the post mentionning midiwebCam

You could do the same inside isadora.

See my lil scene there

the object velocity in front of the cam control a midi value wich you can link to whatever you want.
you could control as well a movie player speed if you please or anything you want.

In your case, you can, using isadora's actors do a numerical zoom or simulate a focus effect. It replies to zoom.

But the "live footage" part is more difficult

I don't think you can control the "speed" of a live footage.

I think you can control the fps rate or zoom value of the cam if the cam is fully automatised and can be controlled by midi values.

I don't know if such a cam exist.

I hope I helped

Mat

Couldn't you put the live cam into a buffer and control its fps from there?

Controlling the speed of live footage is difficult, because it's "source speed" is always the same. The buffer probably won't do what you need, and the video delay uses a fixed number of frames. The only suggestion I can give is that you experiment with making a chain of video delay actors, and use a selector actor to select which one is supplying the video. This will allow you to change the delay time on the fly -- don't really know how this will look, but perhaps it is worth an experiement.

Best,
Mark
