Failsafe 'locking' of Isadora Can't Post

I'm using Isadora with a theatre performance were two computers are being used -
The first computer, the 'master' is controlled from backstage, sending the images produced onto the projected screen on stage. It also sends (via net broadcast) all data/triggers etc to the second computer.
The second computer is situated on stage, where the actor simulates the action being reproduced on the main projection screen and likewise on their monitor which is being triggered by their 'slave' version of the Isadora interface - All they see though are the images produced (a mirror of those on the projector).

This is all working fine but I have a concern that thee is a possiblilty that with random use of the keyboard, the computer on stage could be quit/closed down/basically anything other than what it's meant to, accidentally by the actor.

My question is - is there a failsafe way of locking Isadora so that you can't accidentially click out of it or click into the menus etc.
I guess I'm after a Kiosk mode.

The computer on stage is a laptop - so i can't simply have a faux mouse or keyboard attached.
The computer on stage also simple is a slave from the data of the main machine - it sends no data at all.

Thats a tricky one...

Maybe using a bluetooth keyboard and disabling the laptop one perhaps? (Then taking the bluetooth one away?)

I'm sure on a PC you can lock a keyboard though.... not sure

Or, maybe run a screensaver that has a password on it? (don't know if this is a good idea during a live show though)

Maybe somebody else will have a better idea....

I don't have any suggestions for you on this front. I'll see if there is a way to add this in a future version.

Best Wishes,
Mark

That is tricky. I don't know of a tool subset for Mac OS that can freeze user input from a mouse/keyboard.

Perhaps just use a fake keyboard and mouse for the actor onstage?

Again Thanks for the replies.

It would be great if a locking option could be added to Izzy!

One other thing - which is kind of related - Is there a maintaining the second monitor image image being output whilst coming out of Isadora and dipping into other programs etc.

If anyone is interested in the performance mentioned above the link is below - It's called 'Smile' written by Stephen Lowe:

I've only just noticed this, after a useful post from someone a few weeks back, but if you un-tick "floating stage windows" in the stage tab of the Isadora preferences then the second output stays on despite switching applications.

Fantastic JoeST, Can't believe I missed that. I don't think it's mention in the Manual? Saves some embarrassing situations

Yes I forgot to mention that, I was thinking along the lines of a hardware keyboard lock so it was completely locked out.

Be aware that the floating stage does work but if you are running 10.5 with 'spaces' then the second screen out put will move with the spaces. (If you're on 10.5 then this will make sense)

FWIW, this option is discussed in the Stage Preferences section of the manual, under chapter called "Setting Preferences."

Best,
Mark

Re: [Barret] Failsafe 'locking' of Isadora [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm going to guess this is a laptop or you would just unplug the keyboard.
But even if it is a laptop you could open it up and unplug the keyboard ribbon cable, it's probably pretty obvious which one it is, and unlikely that anything other than the keyboard is on that cable. I've done this with several PC laptops in the past.
It does then become inconvenient to use the laptop of course, but you can keep a USB keyboard nearby, or even hooked up and tucked away out of harms way.
