Making 3D models transparent? Can't Post

Lost in 3D space...

How can I take a 3DS model, say the simple cube which comes with Isadora, and cover it with a movie clip (mostly black with stripes of color let's say) and have the result be a "transparent" cube? Meaning the black gets removed and I can see the stripes on all six sides of the cube?

Tried various combos of alpha channel processing to the texture movie so far to no avail...

Thanks for any advice?

John
