Resolution/pixels/projectors? Can't Post

Hello

"in the old days..." it used to be easy: 320 x 240 for clips, 640 x 480 on the projector. Now, I have a question about my system of MBP 2.33, Matrox TH2Go and 3 different projectors.

The Matrox only outputs 2400 x 600 (and above) on my computer. The projectors vary, but two are 800 x 600 native resolution, I have to buy the other projector so it is unknown at this time. So it looks obvious that I should use clips of 800 x 600 for best quality, right? Is there a 1/4 scale factor involved here "like there used to be"? ie 400 x 300 for clip size or should I do 640 x 480 and let the projectors scale it? The clips are not being heavily manipulated by Isadora - much more of a selection this select that patch.

If I want to use five clips scaled in Izzy to place around in one 3D projector actor (so that one vid projector has multiple clips playing) does anyone recommend making the original clips small, say 320x240 since these clips will be only a part of the larger 800 x 600 section of the 2400 x 600 total output?

Well, my question shows my confusion - any suggestions and experiences welcome!

Thanks

John

John

I just did a show with two mac G5s and 2 TH2Go for 7 projectors some 800x600 and some 1024x768, my QT clips were 640x480 and used the photo-jpg compression with no problems or lag. I also had 320x240 clips just in case, but didn't feel the need to use them. I think that 5 clips running in a 3D projector will give you a little problem so lower res might be best.

Matt's suggestions are all good ones. The problem will be playing back five simultaneous hi-res movies; in my experience, you're not going to be able to do that. Three movies maybe -- but five is doubtful.

So, given that, I would have my movies at 400x300 if the projectors are at 800x600. The exact doubling will probably look best. Still, all scaling on the 3D Projector or regular Projector actors is done in OpenGL, so you get bicubic interpolation as part of the deal. You might try 640x480 movies to see what they look like, and to see if you can play five at a time.

Best Wishes,
Mark

P.S. The other possibility on the Mac is to use the Core Image Movie Players and Projectors; this will increase your bandwidth a fair amount, allowing for higher res movies. Still, the disk drive could be the bottleneck.
