I've had this complaint before... Generally, it's difficult to pinpoint, but I seriously doubt it is Isadora causing the problem. Realize that you have 3 points of volume, only one of which is probably recorded digitally (Isadora). The Macintosh volume can be changed rather easily and accidentally by the push of a button, and if this is someone's personal laptop computer, it is very likely. And then the sound is probably running into a mixer, which may or may not have an operator, correct? Generally, I set the Mac to FULL volume, since it is easiest to remember and does not cause any distortion. Then set the highest level in Isadora with the highest level on the mixer, and then record all of the Isadora levels from there. Once levels are set in Izzy, you should set those actors to init to the level you've set, as an extra added insurance. If you have fades happening, this is absolutely necessary. But, I suggest this is an operator problem, assuming you have at least one human in contact with the computer and/or the sound board. If there are no operators and all of this is automated, then check your cables and consider running your audio signal through a DI box to convert it to a balanced signal (if you aren't already doing this to avoid a ground loop). All that said, taking the above precautions, I've never had a real problem with variable levels from Isadora - it's always an operator error or hardware failure in my experiences. From some reason, there are those audio engineers in the theater who just don't trust anything coming out of a computer that isn't SFX.
