Stage Recording with 3D projector

OK I did a forum search a no-one else seems to be having this problem.
I have a fairly simple patch set up. A 3D particles projector with the shapes actor. I am receiving midi notes from logic that make lines appear using slit scan and a bit of blur.
When I am NOT recording the stage the lines fly towards the screen (Y gravity I think that is?) This is cool, exactly what I want.
However, when I AM recording the stage output: the Gravity/velocity does nothing. The lines stay motionless. As soon as i click stop recording stage, it returns to normal.
Can no work this one out, I have recorded as Motion JPEG and as H.264 incase it was my comp being slow but no changes.
Am I being totally daft here or what?
