TV Cards Can't Post

Has anyone had any experience of using TV Cards (or Sticks) with Isadora? (Preferably on a PC)

I am in UK and have a Hauppage Nova- T - USB2 External Box thing - I can't get this one to work with Izzy though.

Ideally I am looking for a unit which enables me to display 3 tv channels at once on different stages, audio and all.
Not much to ask is it?!

Failing this I guess I could use 3 separate tv cards. Hopefully not with 3 different computers though.

Thanks for any help in this matter,

Gavin

Has nobody used live tv streams with Isadora then?

Yes i have a real cheap (£15 GBP) KWorld 'Global TV Terminator' PCI card plummed into my Shuttle PC, which works a treat with Isadora. Was recently used in my wife's reactive mirror intallation using an equally cheap (£14 GBP) CCTV camara, which produced pretty decent results. The main advantage over using webcam's and suchlike is that there is much less lag yet retains decent resolution, which was crucial for the operation of the mirror. The installation was later used with a Sony Cybershot camera on AV output, which produced a rather brighter video input, which worked better ultimately (and slightly more discrete than the CCTV camera). I've also tried it with a wireless AV transmitter (also quite cheap to buy), which allows you to roam with an old fashioned analog video camera to good effect. I have not tried my Shuttle with a digital video camara as yet, so curious to know what the advantages are against using an analog AV input. Any comments on this most welcome??

Thanks for the tip.

Just to check, have you used the Kworld card as a TV receiver in Isadora as well as using it for video capture?

I'd say the only advantage of dv cameras is higher resolution/quality but in my experience it's often too much data for my machines to process in 'realtime'. Depends what you're doing I guess.

If the TV does work in Izzy, can anyone tell me if multiple Video In sources are possible?

yes, works fine as a tv receiver in isadora... can't imagine what uses it might be put to though?... if only another live input could be added in then it would be possible to appear 'live' in your favourite soap

p.s. apologies... just checked your original posting and now remember what you wanted to achieve... there is an option in the KWorld software (PVR plus) that allows you to 'channel surf' a number of channels at the same time within a 'preview' pane i.e. you seem to have up to 9 channels in one frame. Haven't tried this though, as I use the card purely for video capture, and certainly not in isadora, but if your keen to know more i can give it a go...

Just a quick update in case anyone ever needs to know - the card works fine in Isadora but the channel surf - 9 channels in one frame feature has only one live frame, the others are screen grabs. Shame. Still one channel is better than none (is it? cue discussion about the merits of TV)

By the way you can have more than one live input using Pete's Freeframe plug in. Can't remember trying this but it should work.

Re: [gavspav] TV Cards Pete's Freeframe [In reply to] Can't Post

I've use Pete's Freeframe Live and Live2 along with one Vdig input to run 3 live videos in Isadora on the PC.
It worked though I could only get one at full res, the others as 320x240. This was using 3 Osprey 100 cards.

There is some oddity with the Freeframe, One you must send it a frame of video to get a frame of video out.
No problem there, just a bit odd. Second while the output of the freeframe shows up in the thubnail preview when you roll over a patch cord it does not show up in the projector. Mark suggested it might be a confused alpha channel, but the only fix I found was to scale the output. I just scaled it 99.9% and it shows up in the projector.

Also there is no way to adjust the input settings with the freeframe, you set it up in some other application first, and then the freeframe just uses your last setting I think.

As for TV cards I have this to report using th VDig version of Isadora, I will have to test again to confirm with the Native Capture version.

The Cute TV usb device works as a live video capture device, but the TV Tuner is not available to Isadora/VDIG.

The ADS Instant TV For Notebooks (PTV-370) works in Isadora/VDIG providing live input and the TV tuner.

I don't really want to pull live TV but I was using a cheap channel 59 wireless video transmitter hooked up to my Camcorder to get a wireless hand held video feed from stage. It's pretty iffy with a $49 transmitter, it worked for one show in NY, but failed on tour. I think I would opt for a $500 steady cam wireless system next time.

Re: [hal] TV Cards Pete's Freeframe [In reply to] Can't Post

Followup note. the ADS Instant TV no longer works with newer Isadora version that use native capture.
this is a PC only card that does not work on the mac

The Cute TV still works (it is a w9967 chip)
the Cute TV does not work on the mac.

the Kworld V-Stream DVD Maker does not work with the Kworld "bda" drivers,
but I did get it to work with Izz on a PC with some other drivers meant for that video chipset. (it is a 2860 chip)
this chipset also works on a mac with Video Glide

So I've got no cards that will get the TV input directly in Isadora, but you can still use a VCR to convert TV to composite.
