I have a partner at the 3LD theater in New York City who will be using Isadora to play HD soon. I'll be working closely with them to develop specifications for what computer is required, and how many videos may be played simultaneously.

So more to come... but perhaps others have information or experiences to share.

Best,
Mark

Hello

I have worked with HD in isadora. My experience is that the core image actors are best in performance. Besides that, it runs just like ordinary video, except you cant have many at once, or put filters at.

My biggest problem is that in my last setup (which was with a mac pro 2 x 2,8 gHZ, and geforce 7300) i couldn't even add keystone to a single HD footage without it æagged. Since that i have upgraded the computer, and i will soon try how the performance will change. All my movies have been photo -jpeg encoded, but im wondering if thats the smartest with HD? I could imagine that there where other more effective quicktime encodings.

I think it is probably best to leave the movies encoded in their native format, not convert them to Photo JPEG when playing HD. I have no proof of this yet, but it is my suspicion that this will work best.

Anyway... I will be trying some of these things out at 3LD in the coming weeks I hope, and can give further reports.

Best Wishes,
Mark

I did tests a few weeks back using Apple Pro Res 422 in Isadora with some success.

On a MacPro Quad-Core (8gb RAM) it handled 3 videos simultaneously at roughly 30fps without any effects. One video played back stable at 75fps.

This codec comes with FCP Studio 2, and you can run your files through compressor. There is some color loss, unless you add a few filters in the compression process.

So far, this is the most responsive HD codec I've found for working in Isadora. I'm still trying to find something better, but for now, this is what I recommend using.

I don't generally lay alot of live effects on my footage, so perhaps you will be disappointed once you start layering on the magic... but maybe not.
