media index -> Edit text	Can't Post

Is there a way for a text field to display the name of a media file? If I link it to the input of a media player , though the player actor shows the name at best I can only get the "edit text" control to display the index number rather than the name.

Am I missing something obvious?

in addition - is there way to have a text field that cannot be edited from the control panel?
