recording output Can't Post

Hi, i'm quite new to isadora. i've been trying to record the output of a patch several times but never obtained the right results...
The patch is entirely sound controlled so i have to obtain a good rendering because that's the final video for the track. I've been trying with various settings (even 320x240, photo-jpeg) but i've never obtained something decent, the patch doesn't work properly when recording, and in particular, seems to loose precision in reacting to the audio input.

So i tried to slow down the render speed but i just obtained a video of a totally different speed... so i've lost completely the sync with the audio track.
There is probably some vital notion that i'm missing but i've really tried everything before asking.

Thanks in advance
b.

have u tried using the firewire output to a camera? You would have to record the sound via the sound out connected to the mic input on the camera.

unfortunately my camera model do not allow me to record on tape from an external input... that would be a solution but no way at the moment.
thanks for the suggestion.

Usually, when attempting to record the output in real time, and when responding to real-time inputs, you may not be able to obtain a consistent frame rate if the computer is not powerful enough. The act of 1) compressing the video and 2) writing it to disk takes up a lot of bandwidth.

The suggestion of outputting to the FireWire camera may work, but this also takes up a fair amount of bandwidth and computational power.

If you have can output an NTSC / PAL video directly to a monitor, you can use record that. This would be the best option for real time response because there is no burden on the computer in terms of processing power.

I can get the meaning of this:

I usually output the stage to a 2nd monitor..

You said you can get the meaning of this... do you mean can't? (I'm assuming the latter.)

For instance, on my Mac Book Pro, I can output a composite video signal that I can plug directly into a TV set -- this appears as your "2nd Monitor". You place the stage on this output, and take the composite input into a video tape recorder and record the results.

Does that make sense?

Re: [Mark Coniglio] recording output [In reply to] Can't Post

yeah, sorry, i meant can't. and yeah, it's clear to me how to output my laptop on a 2nd monitor / tv.. just i wasn't considering that as an option cause it means to record on an analog medium like videotape and then record that back on the laptop for editing. i thought you meant a way to keep it digital.
but probably if recording is so cpu expensive recording the output somewhere else is the only way...

thanks

but the only problem with this option is you get a flashing line near the bottom of the recorded video when importing back into FCP...at least i do on my G4 laptop..has this been fixed by Apple on the new Intel macines?

Hey Mark are you sending the composite signal out of your DVI output? i also have a macbook pro.. only has a dvi.. my old titanium had an s-video.. not sure why they discontinued it though i suppose new projectors can use vga and dvi.
thanks

Mac sells DVI and mini-DVI adapters to connect RCA, VGA, and S-Video. They cost about $20 and are infinitely useful. Wink
