saving data of a table actor Can't Post

Hi all,
maybe somebody was in a similar situation and found a solution about this working in windows...

i need to save the content of a table actor and get it back after close the patch and reopen it, and this must be done having no access to the patch, just from a control panel..

is clear that if i have access to the patch and ->i modify something in the patch<- i can press CTRL+S and the table content is save it, but if i didnt modify something like add and actor or something else in the patch the CTRL+S option dont works because the value change of a table actor dosent count as a modification and CTRL+S is unavailable... i can do i "Save as..." but isnt the better solution for me...

the better solution seems an actor to write txt files and another to read, but seems isnt a feature at the moment... btw an interesting feature...
maybe also a "force save" feature could be interesting and have access to it from an actor, but i think the first one is the best...

thank you very much for any advice about...

Dear Oscar,

Obviously this is a problem with the non-saving version of Isadora. There isn't really any workaround unfortunately... I have recently encountered the need to solve this myself, and am considering solutions.

Best,
Mark

Well yes if you can't save then you can't even do small tweeks, so it would be nice to be able to have a demo, or maybe even "cheaper" version of the Izz that could save value changes but not let you add/remove actors or wires. Maybe save new/changed snapshots in the "playback" only version.

But I think the issue here is different, and I have this same issue often.
After I have finished a patch, and all the actors and wires are in place I am still tweeking the values of the actors.
But Isadora will only save if it notices a "big" change like moving an actor on screen. So I have to tell my video operator that once they have made some changes the have to show the actors and wiggle one of them so that they can save.

So the solution for me is just being allowed to save a file any time even if Isadora has not noticed a change would solve the problem for me.
But Oscar wants a Control panel button to save the file.
So he would either need save to be active always AND a new actor that saved on trigger, OR use a button to trigger a message (OSC, MIDI, Serial) out to an external program that could shove the CTRL-S message at Isadora to save the file.
Now speaking of being able to save right from the controls I would love to be able to add an Update Snapshot button to my Controls but there is are only recall and save(new) snapshot actors, not update snapshot. Please can we have an update snapshot actor?
And enable CTRL-S all the time?

First, to comment on what makes the document "dirty" (i.e., saveable) the standard of almost every program is that anything that is "undoable" in the Edit menu should make the document dirty, and thus enable the save option.

Manually changing a value of an actor will make the document dirty, and enable the save. But doing it from the Control Panel will not, as this is not (a should not be) an undoable action in my opinion.

When you say

I don't think this is true. If you edit the value of an actor with the mouse or by typing, the file becomes saveable. If you move a Control in the Control Panel, and the value changes, it does not.

Regarding this comment:

The new version has both Take Snapshot and Update Snapshot actors. So you will get your wish.

But I really do disagree with the notion of enabling Cntrl-S all the time. This is simply not normal in any application... and I would not like to break such an understood and agreed upon standard.

The notion of creating a "Save File" actor, that forcibly saves the file, is something I am however willing to consider.

Best Wishes,
Mark

Re: [Mark Coniglio] saving data of a table actor [In reply to] Can't Post

Ok, maybe my perception was just that numeric values didn't trigger a dirty state, but they do sometimes.
I'm often only changing values from MIDI, OSC, or Control Panel by the end of tech week and during a run, so that's when I encounter this.
Sorry I miss interpreted this.
So far anyone tech savvy enough to be willing to be a video operator has been ok with going into edit mode to make the file savable.

in the PC world there are lots of programs that are probably just too lazy to enable a dirty state and always save, but that's no reason to go against a logical standard practice. Most programs also mostly don't have to deal with runtime events that don't change a file, but change states that do get saved in files, it does seem edge condition-ish.

Anyway, it's all sugar, but being able to put an update snapshot into my controls, or from a control panel, or even more tricky, on a remotely controlled version of Isadora will be great, and could make my patches more idiot proof. Thanks.
The remotely controlled situation would be the place where a force save might be really useful too.
Not that I'll be able to appropriate budget for a licensed version on every computer on most shows so probably won't run up against this soon.

how about feeding a trigger value actor the slider input and then have an enter scene actor trigger them next time you open?

maybe too simple?
