MacBook Air... Can't Post

Has anyone tried setting up Izzy on a MacBook Air yet?

Would love to see some benchmark tests...

It looks sexy, but its spec is poor let's be honest.

Only thing I like is the multi-touch track pad. I hope the MBPro's get a firmware update so we can use it.

The multi-touch track pad could be a good tool to mess around with in Izzy for spin, and 3D model rotation etc...

Yeah, I know all this, it's a generally poor machine.

But nonetheless... it's super portable and some people need that...

So.. Has anyone tried using Isadora on one yet?

I'm going to try installing the demo on a machine at the apple store, if the folks there let me, i guess.

Update... not that anyone is really interested except for me...

It works great on the MacBook Air. I gave it a runthru today at the store, and it's pretty solid... plays back multiple videos smoothly and it can sustain fairly high frame rates.

Funny thing, the machine crashed repeatedly, but not from Isadora... from PhotoShop Elements... which was sort of depressing. It can run Izzy and playback videos, but it can open up a 3rd part photo editor. And the airport card went on the fritz too...

The verdict would be wait until the next gen...

Haha, I am interested, an I guess you are right about portability. Smile

Apple are predictable at needing to wait for newer versions but Its cool that Izzy ran smooth. Bit strange about PhotoShop though...

It was cool that the guys at the store let you install software... I don't think my store would let me do that, they basically make you wear gloves and hair nets when touching 'their' machines.

Yeah, I didn't ask... I just brought a USB stick and ran it off the jump drive... so the test was a little less than optimal, but nonetheless impressive.

The Apple Stores in NYC are ridiculous... It's like some gigantic Internet Cafe Mall Thing... people list to iPods and dance and video chat and pay bills online and whatever else.... It's total madness, so no one's gonna notice some dude with a USB stick.... at least, not until I took the jump drive out and accidently pulled out the alarm lock and set off sirens!!

FWIW, I'm very happy with Isadora's performance on my 1.6 GHz Macbook Air. IMO the biggest drawback of the machine is not performance, but the lack of screen spanning (which it shares with all Macbooks).

best regards,

guy

Don't know if this works on the new macbook's / air, (or 10.5 for that matter) but there use to be a program the 'unlocked' the ibooks/imac and enabled Dual screen use, the Link for the program is here [http://www.rutemoeller.com/mp/ibook/ibook_e.html]

andrew -

many thanks for the tip - i've used it on old iMacs in the past with good success, but it's three years old now, and i'm frankly still a bit too protective of my shiny new baby...

i should know better, and digging into the OpenFirmware docs should make it settable manually, too, if the graphics card support it at all but for now at least, i'm chicken, and given that the graphics card is pretty low end, i'd need to check the specs more closely...

All of the Apple machines put out in the last couple to few years are capable of dual monitor setups out of the box. You'll only need that software with a specific range of PowerPC iMacs and iBooks.

But now there's this new device that gives you a second screen via USB... so maybe that's a way with the MacBook Air?
