Mac Pro Tower... Can't Post

Well, it's finally happened. The Money Gods smiled and we *might* be getting a Mac Pro Tower at our theater. Here are the specs:
(2) 2.8g Quads, 4Gb RAM, 3 x ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT vidcards.

I plan on a couple of shows that will use at least two of the video cards for output to projectors, but aside from getting some more RAM (cheaper on Newegg) does anyone see any performance issues with Izzy? Are the Radeons OK or should I just get a single and try other comparable cards?
Any info would be much appreciated.

Congrats on the 8-core. The ATI cards are the way to go, since they are faster than the nVidia cards in a fair number of benchmark tests.

Be prepared for these cards to be loud, if they are anything like the x1900 cards ATI put out previously - which is to say, don't plan to put this computer in the house or onstage during performances, unless you're into the sound of four 50watt fans running in a metal box. (But who knows, according to some reviews they've partially remedied this.)

Don't mix card manufacturers, and if at all possible, don't mix cards. Stick with the same card in each PCI slot, otherwise you may run into unsupported technical problems for which none of your warranties will provide service.

Side note - get at least 2 internal HDs and separate your system from your files. You can get internal drives for a reasonable price from Apple, so I don't suggest 3rd partying those. I've had the best results from Izzy when running video from a secondary internal sATA drive.

If the money is there, and if you feel adventurous, get the 15,000rpm SAS drives for even faster performance. It's a hefty pricetag, but with a 16mb cache, it literally doubles performance speeds.

This ought to make not only a great performance machine, but a really solid editing station as well. Congrats again, and good luck.

I work with an eight core (2 x 2.8), 2 gig ram, one Ati card and a Intensity Pro (decklink) capture card.

Everything works fine. While running Isadora, I checked the activity of the Macpro (applications/utilities/activity monitor), and i never reached the limits of my CPU or memory...

A good thing to boost up performance is indeed installing an extra sas drive, and separate your system from your files. I don't have any experience with this, but I think it is a must have if you want to capture and edit real time live video.

I bought this computer especially for capturing live video. With the intensityPro card I have 3-4 frames delay (this is an estimation...), and with a TV card 7-10 frames. 7-10 is very noticeable. 3-4 is ok. I still don't understand why capturing one video signal (composite) is more difficult than broadcasting 5 different video signals... Does anyone now what exactly happens when a video signal enters your computer...

It is a very silent computer... Maybe it gets worse with three ATI cards...

ief
