TH2G as DH2G? Can't Post

Hi

I've got a MBP 2.33 and need to buy one of the Matrox units for the installation I'm working on - it might utilize 2 vid projs or prhaps 3 projectors. So... I saw on the Matrox sight that the newer TH2Gs have the ability to be used as DH2Gs (ideal for my uncertain situation) but the software trick is PC only. Anyone had any experience with this? An Isadora work around? It is hard to do my normal head scratching try this and try that routine without the stuff in-hand.

Thanks

John

Well, I'll ask another question... Matrox says "no go for Macs" concerning using a TH as a DH with their PC-only software trick so--- has anyone had any experience using just outputs 1 & 2 and leaving output 3 not hooked up? If I make the images correctly fit, say, 1600 x 600 instead of 2400 x 600 would that effectively work as a Dual Head? Any tech reasons why not? Sorry this is off-topic a bit, but it seems hard to get an answer from more "mainstream" resources!

Thanks, John

I've used a dual head 2 go (vga, not digital) with only 1 projector hooked up to it and it worked fine - you just lost the half that was being sent out the other socket, but you could tweak the projectors to accomodate that.

I don't have experience with the 3h2go though.

Often they will say it doesn't work, cos they can't imagine why you would want to, and how you could as most software won't let you manipulate your output as easily as isadora does, so you won't get usable results

Thanks Nick - that's very helpful. I recently received an email from Matrox concerning my use of 2 of the 3 outputs and you got it right - they had no idea why I would even think about such an "odd" use!

No problem.

of course I mean the projector actors in Isadora here - as well as making your content the right size you need to set you projectors to width 66.667 (so it covers the 2/3 of the screen space being actually used), and then possibly setting the left position, depending on which 2 of the three outputs you are using.

This is similar to what I was told about the triple head when I was looking into getting one a while back. Sounds like you can just plug in two displays and it will work, you are just losing some video processing power from the phantom 3rd display.
