TH2Go Analog with 7300gt Can't Post

Will the triple head2go analog edition work with the standard nvidia 7300 on the mac pro or do i need to get the digitl version. I know that the 7300's only output a digital signal but does the TH2GO convert the signal to analog? Thanks,

Austin

You need to convert the DVI to vga to send an input into the TH2GO analog first, so you need an adapter like this one.

The analog version comes with 2 DVI-I to VGA cables, but the word on the street is that these cables are bunk, and you should get your own Apple adapter, and not use the ones provided.

The analog version takes in and sends out only VGA (DB15). The digital version takes in and sends out DVI and no adapter is needed.

FWIW, the Matrox-supplied TH2Go cables have worked without problem for me.

OS X - have you found the operating system makes a difference when using video cables?

The video cards make a difference, and those can vary depending upon the operating system.

But I'm repeating what was told to me by Izzy user Hal Eager - that the cables which came with the TH2GO caused a problem and once he exchanged them for other cables, the device worked fine. I'm not sure if he's on Mac or Windows, but I assume that everyone is on Mac, unless told otherwise.

I've never been in a position where I needed to use one, but I've kept a close eye on all of the threads and have asked alot of questions about the device.

If you have any other information to share about the TH2GO that might help, post whatever you know to help save other time. I know we will all end up needing to use one eventually.

Well, just to keep this going... I think everyone's opinion about matters important to us, such as what works and what doesn't, are valuable - I'm just concerned one opinion is generalized beyond fact.

Just a followup on this,

I succesfully used two TH2Go's with a new 2.66 mac pro with 4 7300GT cards. Doing this I was able to output 9 independent channel from my mac pro using Isadora. Most of the content was still images or very short movie fles but I was amazed that one computer was able to handle this.

Did you try running 9 movies simultaneously ever?

I just used the Catalyst media server on a show (just did some programming, nothing too intense), and the documentation claims that it can run 8 full frame movies simultaneously. I'd love to think that Isadora can match that on an 8-core... so didya try?

There was one cue that had 5 different movies playing at once, but it was playing 4 of the movies in two different movie players with the start position offset so essentially I had 9 independent video feeds. The movie files were 400x300 photo-jpeg quicktime. It wasn't perfectly smooth but it was impressive, the content was a flood of images so if it was a little jumpy it didn't look bad.

This was on basically the slowest MacPro available (2.66) with 3gigs of RAM, with an 8-core and more RAM I believe It could handle anything the Catalyst could.

The show is still running so before I take apart the system I will push it to the limit and see where it just falls on is face.
