TH2Go with MBP 2.16 2gb RAM Can't Post

OK. I'm starting to loooove Izzy. I have a gig that may require 3 screens. I'm pretty sure the show will only use still imagery (hi-res photos). Could I use a TH2GO (digital, I think) to output to 3 christie DS+8k's with a MBP 2.16 2 gb RAM? The show will potentially have 30-40 cues and I would set up something similar to Tutorial #7 (only using the Picture player actor instead). Cross-fades only. I do have an outlet to rent a dual G5, single video card (radeon?) and I'm wondering if this would be a better option.....

Hi

I'm using a 2.33 MBP with an analog TH2Go into three projectors and it works fine. Check the Matrox site for compatibility... only oddity is that I can't use 1800 x 480 - but 2400 x 600 works well. Something about the ATI drivers, not Isadora according to Matrox.

Good luck- John

So.....let me get this straight...and maybe I don't know enough about the TH2GO- but do you output 3 separate outputs...or are you "spanning the three outputs with one image and moving separate images into the three outputs to achieve the look of three outputs? did that make sense?

Sort of made sense... after you hook up the TH2G, Isadora "sees" a 2400 x 600 screen. You place your clips in different projectors (lets say they are 800 x 600) to the left, center and right... it is really simple when you have a TH2G. Or make a 2400 x 600 movie in say After Effects and use one projector. Hard to verbalize.

Aha. No, you make complete sense. We often times use a Folsom Encore at work and have to do the same thing. Except with PIP! It looks like this rig will work for my purposes. Now I'll need to get a second unit and start to play with OSC to another Mac (with another TH2G). I'm stoked. It sounds confusing. But tres cool. Thanks for the info!

My gig is not till March, but I'll take lots of pics.

John,
We run a three-screen setup at our church, and we are not using a TH2GO, just running two dual-head graphics cards. Each output to a projector is 800x600. We're running a Dual core 2.3 GHz G5 tower, and I think every 2400x600 video I've tried to push through the system has locked it up. Out solution is to take 1200x300 video and scale it. Even some of these don't work if the bit-rate is too high, and certain compression options don't play nicely. Are you saying that with a MBP 2.33GHz and TH2GO, you are able to run 2400x600 video straight through to three projectors? This could be good news if that's the case. What are the specs on the video files you're running?

Hello paul

A quick reply is yes, my 2.33 and a TH2Go run 2400 x 600 w/o a hiccup into three vid projectors. I have used live DV input, 3 640 x 480 clips as well as PhotoJPEG movies from After Effects sized 2400 x 600 as well as 1920 x 480 (Izzy scales them up to 2400) and all seems fine. I use either 25 fps or 30 fps. The old 320 x 240 looks good (well sorta good) spread over the TH2Go as well.

John,
Do you think our dual G5 isn't powerful enough to drive it? Maybe our patch is not as efficient as it could be? I know the Macbook Pros are a good bit more powerful than two 2.3 GHz G5 processors, but still, that's not exactly a slow machine. I'm considering getting a TH2Go just to try it with my own Macbook Pro 2.16GHz with 2GB just to give this thing a test.

I'm sure you computer is fine... but check on the Matrox site for info on what machine can do what. If you pay more (than discount sites) by buying from Matrox, you can try one and return for free it if need be.

John

What it the Status window saying about the performance of your patch? The video codec is of course very important too.

Isadora doesn't hog too much of the processors, if I remember correctly (The computer is at our church building, so I can't check until later). How large are the files that you play? Are they several gigabytes? Also, would you mind sending me the patch you're using to playback these 2400x600 videos? I think we are going to try the TH2Go on our G5 (and my MBP) and see what kind of results we can get.
