CI Movie Player+CI Projector slower Can't Post

I tried a patch using the CI Movie Player and CI Projector to play three clips in sync, and found that the frame rates were much lower than the same patch using plain old Movie Player and Projector. Should there be an FPS advantage for playback of Photojpeg movies using the CI actors? I have a macbook pro 2.2GHz with a GeForce 8600M GT with 128 MB ram. Thanks for any ideas on this.

Hi

My experience has been slightly different. I have a scene with three player -> projector sections playing 640 x 480 PhotoJPEGs - playing at once into a TH2Go - no efx, just an occasional cross-fade within each Player->Projector section. When using CI parts as compared to standard actors, I got 6-10% less cpu hit with the CI components. I did not play them "in sync" though starting all at once should be the same thing... MBP 2.33, latest izz, and 10.4.10.

I too did some tests with the CI Movie Player and the CI Projector using HD Video. To my surprise, it was slower than the standard Movie Player and Projector. There are two possible reasons:

1) In previous versions of QuickTime, a conversion is necessary to render the image. In 10.5 you can get around this, but it's going to be a few weeks before I can use this feature, and it will only be for users of 10.5

2) At a certain point, I suspect that shipping all that video data to the graphics card is _not_ as efficient as dealing with it in the CPU. (Remember, core image does all of it's video processing on the GPU.)

So, I will need to do some more investigation on this. It may be resolution dependent as I indicated. But I'll have to get back to you on this.

Best,
Mark
