Multiple Triple Head 2Gos Can't Post

Hi there. I was planning on using 3 graphics cards with 5 Matrox Triple Head 2Gos to output signal to 15 monitors (yes Isadora can handle running that many clips at the same time, you just have to compress them as half-ntsc resolution photo jpegs. and use a pimped out octo-core MacPro tower).

From what I'd seen on the forum previously, I was under the impression that you could run signal to multiple TripleHead2Go's per computer. As per:

Re: [JJHP3] TH2Go Analog with 7300gt [In reply to] Can't Post
Just a followup on this,

I succesfully used two TH2Go's with a new 2.66 mac pro with 4 7300GT cards. Doing this I was able to output 9 independent channel from my mac pro using Isadora. Most of the content was still images or very short movie fles but I was amazed that one computer was able to handle this.

Austin

However, I just looked into the Matrox manual and it says that "Only one (1) Matrox Triplehead2Go product at a time maybe connected to your computer." This seems to directly contradict the report of BrunoBruno/Austin. Can someone help me out here?

We're about to order aforementioned pimped out MacPro, a bunch of Matrox modules, and a shit-ton of monitors, and it'd be nice to know whether the rig actually has a chance of working before doing so.

A million thanks!

yeah, definitely post photos...

oh, and make certain the room is air-conditioned to about 10 degrees celsius... that machine is going to get mighty toasty with all of those processors and video cards...

Re: [gweezy] Multiple Triple Head 2Gos [In reply to] Can't Post

I haven't actually tried it with three, but using 1 on a Octo- mac pro at the moment, and I don't see why it wouldn't work, as the TH2G basically just makes the computer think it's got a bigger screen, there's no interaction / control between the mac & the TH2G, It does use USB, but that's for power only, so if any thing having 5 off one machine, you might have to look for an external power source (powered USB hub) to power them.

Talking of Issy & the new Octo's I've had an Installation I put in last week which has 3 of them, 1 with 6 Out, the other 2 just with double outs. Awesome setup, Nightmare show, Gotta say - Love the new machine's, and issy just screams along on them! at peek in issy, Activity viewer only show 1 processor getting to about 70%, the other 7 didn't get above 5-7%.

Final Cut Pro also screams along, and compressing movie's... Well waiting is a thing of the past!

Heat wise, the big setup, the 2 base machine, barely got hot at all and the 6 out put one, warmed a little, but nothing like the old G5's, The fans are also really quiet on the ATI Cards

Also just a word of Warning, The 2008 Mac Pro's, just make sure you order the new graphics cards (ati HD2600XT) with them as the cards for the old Mac Pro's DONT WORK (I Found this out the hard way!) and of course apple didn't release the Tech note on this until after I had bought the other cards!

I've attached a couple of photo's

I didn't even know Matrox said not to do it but it was fine. I had 4 7300GT graphics cards and 3 TH2Go's with no problems. I never tried putting two TH2Go's on the same graphics card, that' might be what they say not to do. We were ouputting to a bunch of free monitors that we collected from Craigslist so high quality wasn't top priority, but the computer ran fine.

I was amazed too!

OUCH! Bet that was a sting in the tail! I feel apple have been a bit slow recently, think they have been putting to much into a silly thin laptop. ots of problems with firmware and internet proxy's lately.

Love the pics though. A lot of sexy machine to play with there!

Cool
