Operation Question Can't Post

If I set the fps in the preferences to 20 fps and have a Pulse actor in my movie set to 40hz triggering the bulk of my patch, how does it work?

What I mean is, how do all the relevant time settings work with regards to each other?

If the Pulse actor is triggering more frequently than Izzy can process its dependent actors, how does it cope?

Thanks,

Gavin

Re: [gavspav] Operation Question [In reply to] Can't Post

(Note that these comments are relevent for the latest releases of Isadora -- v1.2.8 and later.)

The FPS setting is the target FPS for video. If you set this for 20 FPS, then that is the maximum frame rate Isadora will give you.

Then there is the "General Service Tasks". This is set as a multiple of the frame rate. This determines how often other actors that have to do with time are serviced; E.g. if it is set to 8, and your frame rate is 20 FPS, then the actual number of service tasks per second would be 20 x 8 = 160 times per second. Isadora may not always reach this goal if the CPU load is heavy. You can tell how many service tasks per second are being run by choosing Windows > Show Status. The "Cycles" number indicates the number of tasks per second.

In any case, it would be these "General Service Tasks" that are servicing your Pulse Generator. But know that if your CPU load is heavy, and your the number of cycles (as show in the Status Window) is below 40, then your pulse generator will not trigger 40 x per second.

But I don't really understand what you mean when you say that the Pulse Generator is "in my movie."

Anyway, I hope that helps.

Best,
Mark

Just a brain spasm. I meant in my patch!
