I think in this situation you are better off to stick with DV PAL movies at 720 x 576. That being said, there is a big difference between the way Isadora plays movies and QuickTime Player. Isadora must render the movies down to a bitmap (so that you can pass it on to Isadora's effects) and this means that some of the more efficient paths to render on the screen are bypassed. So in general, Isadora will perform more slowly than QuickTime Player. There are two solutions: 1) Use the Core version of Isadora (which is compatible only with 10.4 and above; I see you don't have that) 2) Use the Movie Player Direct actor. This actor does _not_ allow you to do effects or cross fades between scenes, but will give similar performance to QuickTime Player. Hopefully that will help you solve your problem.
