clip instances and video acceleration Can't Post

I have a patch that has 6 screens each with their own media. question is whether using same clip at the same time in multiple players decreases performance when compared to just routing one player to multiple screens, else put if Isadora internally reuses the instance of the clip or plays each instance as a separate resource.

the other question is if mixing 2 clips is it better performance-wise to do with 2 stages using intensity or with a video mixer. (if the stage is GPU accelerated as opposed to videomixer)

3rd thing is an issue in 0.9.5b1 where videoclip playback of goes to normal if mouse is pressed on the stage or almost anywhere within Isadora and decreases to a lower FPS when depressed. (xp, C2Duo, go 7900gs)

thanks

Because each instance of the clip may be unique, playing the same clip twice is essentially the same as playing two different movies. This is because each clip may have different loops, volume, speed, etc.

Now, that being said, it may be that QuickTime itself optimizes this situation. But I do not have any hard facts on this. One thing I can say for sure: the hard drive will have less to do because the head won't be flying around as much trying to get the data -- especially if you have a big cache on the hard drive.

Hopefully that information helps.

Best Wishes,
Mark

that's great , thank you.
I know this has been brought up a long time ago in the mailing list but can't remember how GPU video acceleration is used in videomixer vs projector.

thanks,
LP
