maintain 3:4 scale Can't Post

Hi all,
I think I know the answer to this question, but i'll ask anyway...
Is it critical to maintain 3:4 ratio with video clips, and how processor intensive is it to try to play out video clips at say 1024 x 596 (instead of 1024 x 768) , in order for izzy to perform at its best? I'm doing tests but my results are mixed...
cheers,
jeffm~

Re: [abakuss1] maintain 3:4 scale [In reply to] Can't Post

just confirmed the answer to my own question from the troika site:

"Tip 6: Set the resolution of your output to an even multiple of the video being processed by Isadora, and use the ‘direct’ option in the Projector.
When the resolution of the output device (i.e., the second video output on your computer) is an exact multiple of the video being sent to it, Isadora uses highly optimized code to render the video. If the video images being processed have a resolution of 320 x 240, setting the output resolution to 640 x 480 (i.e., exactly double in both dimensions) allows Isadora to use this special code. If you render your movies at 400 x 300, set your video output to 800 x 600 to enable this optimized code.

IMPORTANT: To take advantage of this feature, you must set the ‘mode’ input on your Projector actor to ‘direct’. The ‘mode’ input is set to ‘copy’ by default because ‘direct’ works on almost every computer, but not absolutely every one."

But does this still hold true with the new CI projector? It does have a "direct" attribute.

It is no longer critical. The "tip 6" in the manual is from the old days before Isadora used OpenGL to render the images. At this point, the ratio matters little, as the any scaling is done by your graphics card and is very fast.

Best Wishes,

Re: [Mark Coniglio] maintain 3:4 scale [In reply to] Can't Post

Cool...
That said, I'm getting mixed results depending on the machine, and need to do more test, but generally would it be more efficient to play 2 1024x768 movies (or any resolution, that as an example) from one computer going to 2 stages, or to play one 2048x768 movie and use the chopper to cut the video in half to output to 2 stages... If nothing else, tests I've done so far indicate using the chopper has an advantage of keeping the 2 stages perfectly in sync, even if the fps is low.... any thoughts?
cheers all~

I think there are performance hits using both methods; I can't give you a hard and fast rule about what's going to be better on a particular machine.

You're correct about the sync tho'.

Best,
Mark
