Isadora Gigs w/ gram rabbit @ Spaceland in LA Can't Post

hi everyone,

i'm doing a series of gigs projecting (using isadora) for a band called gram rabbit in spaceland in LA. the gigs will be every monday in september... we'll go on stage at around 11 pm. spaceland is on silverlake blvd in silverlake which is a little east of hollywood. if you come to one of the shows, please introduce yourself to me... i'll be the guy with the laptop sitting by the sound board running the videos. it should be a great show... gram rabbit rocks and hopefully the videos will be a nice complement to the show.

take care,
antonio

THANKS!

It went really well, even though some guy accidentally unplugged my hard-drive right before starting!

thanks,
antonio

Did you think to yell at him, or were you too busy fixing everything?

And why are you running off an external?

I find it to be much faster to keep all the files local, unless you're dealing with a TON of files, in which case I understand.

i didn't even see it happening until i got the missing hardrive message... as for using an external hardrive i find that isadora works better if you have your source files on an external hardrive... also i have about 90 gigs of clips so i can't really fit them in the laptop.

take care,
antonio

Interesting, I've always thought the opposite about performance via firewire.

Have you done any sort of benchmark tests to determine that it runs better? I'm very curious, because I've never tried. My understanding was that the processor reads faster via the local harddrive bus than it does via firewire port. How could using an external harddrive reduce CPU cycles compared to when running locally?

I'm willing to give this a shot, if only to report back my findings. What laptop model are you running on and which external?

(We might want to move this conversation into Performance or Hardware Platforms. Others might be inclined to chime in. Laptop performance is a grave necessity.)

Are you playing there til the end of the month?
I'm in downtown LA, about 10 minutes from spaceland and would love to see what people are doing with this software.
Maybe I'll go over there and smoke my cigarettes in the fishtank in the back while watching your work. :)

hi don,

yeah, we're there for the rest of the month... please come to see the show and introduce yourself to me... i sit in front of the mixing board... we usually start at 11...

i'm also part of a "video immersion vj jam" at lace this saturday... it's a benefit for freewaves (the new media festival)... it should be a lot of fun... lace is at 6522 hollywood blvd. (a little west from cahuenga).

take care,

antonio

thanks,
antonio
