Nutcracker success Can't Post

I just finished 9 perfs of the Nutcracker using the attached patch. Isadora was flawless- used a MBP 3gb output to CAT5 converter, then to two Panny 5600's for a converged image that was 42'wx24'h!
The simple interface allowed me to cue independent stills and a clip of falling snow. Too cool.
Thanks Mark!

Very cool! Congratulations on the success!

How did the convergence work out? Post a pic of the show, if you've got one.

Cheers,
W

Converging from 110' is a drag any way you do it, and especially with Panasonics! I have a couple of patterns from Folsom that are 1024x768 2 "on" 2 "off" patterns that work very well...if you can get them optically lined up then you know the pixels are on the money.

But fortunately at that distance- being only XGA and animation- it worked out great. My biggest headache was coming up with a realistic "snow". I used a motion filter on a Photoshop "snow" pic in FCP. Next year I think I'll just shake soap flakes in front of a DV cam!. Seriously, I will get some footage as soon as the snow starts falling here in the midwest- animation is a pain.....
thanks for the reply.

Wow - 110' is murder... Regarding the snow - I recommend After Effects CC-Snow... works like a charm. Also, Motion has some nice particle generator effects as well. If you're really into getting fancy, you could try TrapCode's particular, but I haven't tried it yet.

Oh the surprising ways you folks use Isadora. It is great to see it applied to a dance piece with such an enduring and varied history. (BTW, there was a great article recently in the NYTimes about many different versions of the Nutcracker through history - see http://www.nytimes.com/...ts/dance/18maca.html)

Anyway... one thing to try for falling snow is the 3D Particles actor. That way it can actually be interactive, and possibly made to blow in different directions during the show, change size, etc. There's an example of this in the current Isadora Examples file. (And a more robust 3D Particles implementation is coming in the next release.)

Best Wishes,
Mark

I didn't even get to the 3d stuff- I was just getting up to speed with playback! Dang....good idea.....

I have looked at the 3d Particle actor however, and I'm unsure exactly how to use it....
I get the video in part...but how does it patch into a player?
Also, is there a different examples pack than 1.1? I am running 1.2.9

On a side note Mark- A former professor that knows you (and Dawn) from your Cal Arts days was calling the show. Small world...but he spoke very highly (and rightly so) of you!

There are updated examples in the download at http://www.troikatronix.com/izzy-updates.html - specifically the file at http://www.troikatronix.com/...adorasupport-mac.dmg

There is an example of falling snow in the particle system actor in the scene called 3D Particles.

Best Wishes,
Mark
