Theater Control Panel Can't Post

Hey Forum -

I want to share this new control panel I just built. This is for a theater design. I'm finding this works really well when an operator is absolutely required, and even when the system is automated, as a backup for anybody to be able to run.

I've designed this to function like tape decks so any clip can be started, paused, started again, and then stopped. Everything is within the same scene, so no jumps, just projectors fading and crossfading. With a solid machine, the x-fades are seamless.

There is a once-click-limiter setup since many people have a double-click tendency. Those can be paired with program change watchers or something similar to setup lighting automation. Some scenes have music that plays over multiple cues, hence the multiple fades and cross-patching to make this work. Every actor is a custom built user actor containing everything needed to run each cue, which means numerous other user-actors and so on.

Obviously, the control interface is a nod to Bob Moog and his wood stylings. It's a nice easy place to start and it's inspired by the other users posts of their interfaces. I find wood paneling hilarious, but you may disagree...

Anyway, I wanted to share this for other Isadora users designing for theater. I believe in the open source nature of this work and I hope this maybe gives people an idea of the possibilities. You might have similar patches or suggestions or questions. Please question or comment constructively.

If you are in NYC this month, you should come see the show at The Chocolate Factory Theater to see how it all runs.

Cheers,
William

Very nice! I bet that took a while to create. I like the Bob Moog style!

Thanks Vincere!

Surprisingly, this took about one day to create and a few days to finalize. I had a really clear vision of what I needed and my new assistant had some great ideas for it.

Cheers,
William

Hi Olivier -

I am currently reworking this patch, but once it's all done, I will send you the Izzy patch. The show, Welcome to Nowhere, will be in France next Spring, so if you are around, come by and have a look.

Best,
W

Hi!

Nice job. Would really like to try it. Have used Qlab for a show, brilliant, but video fades are just too poor. Also needs the fattest Mac in the world to make video fades tolerable at all.
Seems Isadora can di video fades a lot better.

What I need is a simple q-list, where I can put videos with sound, and set different cross fades times for video in / out and audio in / out. Simple as that. Also, one Q is a live catupre from a DV camera, gently fading in, gently fading out.

Looks like your patch is a place to start.

Now, I am new here...maybe I am an idiot for asking, but anyways: Is it possible to download this theatre patch you made and try it out? Cannot find a download link anywhere...:-)

Still updating and revising the architecture of this patch, will post soon.

The basic underlying principle is this -

Nest everything within Macros, and keep everything within 1 scene.

Hi Tom,

It's a mess right now, I had to redo a bunch of it for the last showings, and I'd be embarrassed to post it in its current state...

Tell me what you have questions about, I'm happy to answer them.

Cheers!
