Re: [Lorna] petes plugins help - CI and freeframe questions [In reply to] Can't Post

I think it may only work on PC? I am trying to figure this out too.
The suffix of the LiveFeed plugin is .dll
The other petes plugins that work on Mac in isadora all seem to have suffix .ffr

Another question I have about petes plugins involves CI (Core Image) plugins from Pete Warden also:
The CI plugins that show up in Isadora in the Core version, seem to be mostly petes plugins also. I noticed that he has some more in his download ackage that do not show up in Isadora however. Is there a folder I can place these myself, for izzy to detect them, or is this something that Mark Coniglio has to incorporate?
It seems like I hsould just be able to place those CI plugins in the right folder somewhere?

any experienced FreeFramers out there that can advise on this?
thanks
jamie

Hi Lorna
How did you install the LiveFeed plugin so that it showed up in the actor list?

Re: [primald] livefeed petes plugins help [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Jamie I have a pc and I had loads of trouble trying to get livefeed actors to work. First my boyfriend installed petes pluggins for me so I will phone him and ask him (not unless someone gets to tell you sooner). But there is something useful I can tell you. Once you have the livefeed actors in izzy it only works if you use a movie player with it. I know its odd but it works. Also your livefeed is upside down so if you use the spinner actor your sorted.
hope this helps.

oh and this way you can use two livefeeds.Smile

Hi Primald, Lorna's boyfriend here. Your absolutely right a .dll will only work on a PC however I know that troika ranch recompiled Pete's plug-ins so I presume they did live feed as well.

About core image no Mark Coniglio does not have to incorporate them they are FreeFrame plug-ins and Isadora is FreeFrame host. I think there will be a folder somewhere to put them in but not being a mac user I have no idea where that would be.

To get the actor to show up all you should have to do is put the file in the correct folder.

Hi Skulpture Lorna's boyfriend again. If you have a PC www.petewarden.com. If you have a mac no idea ask someone from Troika I know the recompiled Pete's Plug-ins I presume they did live feed. If you can code the source is available on www.petewarden.com so you can recompile it yourself.

thanks Lorna and boyfriend :)

RE: How to install FreeFrame .dll files?
PeteLiveFeed.dll
PeteLiveFeed2.dll

I have got the Live Feed and Live Feed 2 plugins for Mac downloaded from Pete's Plugins, but when I put them in the FreeFrame folder, which is where Isadora usually loads them from, nothing happens. They don't show up in the actors lists when I open Isadora.
What I am trying to find out is if I am putting them in the wrong place, and if so, where should they be installed? I have tried opening the Isadora package and placing in the plugins folder there as well, and that doesn't work either.
The suffix for all the other Pete's FreeFrames that I use is different (.frf) and they all work fine. The suffix on the live feed ones (both of them) is PetesLiveFeed.dll
Perhaps there is are LiveFeed .frf versions as well, but I haven't been able to find them.

Anyone else out there that can offer advice on this?
I am sure I am just missing some small crucial piece of knowledge on this.
thanks
jamie

The Live Feed Plugins should not be compiling at all under the Mac since they use 100% Windows specific system calls. Are they actually included with the FreeFrame Installer from the TroikaTronix site? If so, it's a mistake on my part.

Best,
Mark

Re: [Lorna] livefeed petes plugins help [In reply to] Can't Post

I have used LiveFeed and LiveFeed2 with success on a PC.
Yes they are PC only.

  • The most confusing thing about these is that you need to push a frame of video into the actor to get a frame out, I use the video noise actor rather than a movie player.

  • as mentioned in this thread there may be some issues with the image coming in flipped, but this is not universally true, it depends on the video capture device.

  • I have also had problems where the video output from these was "invisible" when sent to a projector. However if I sent the video through some other actor first it would become visible. Not all actors will make it visible, my general solution was to to scale it by 99% with the sprite actor I think. Any actor with zoom would work to make it visible, though spin would not.
    • Mark suggested that perhaps this was a problem with the alpha channel data on the output from these freeframe plugins, but I don't know if that was confirmed.
    • also this was only true with some capture devices not all

  • Last point, I did find that Isadora did get unstable when using these, but I still managed to do a show using both of them and the Isadora vdig video input to get three cameras. It never crashed during the show, just a lot during rehearsal.
